From what we can tell (Our spanish is a bit rusty), the 37th running of the El Clásico El Colombiano at Indeportes Antioquia 2010 is well underway with races already being run and won! The El Clásico El Colombiano was established in 1973 and is the largest gathering of bike competitions in the country with proceeds from the event going to improve the quality of life for local Colombians. The event includes a massive line up including Bicycle cross, Cross Country, Downhill, Dirt Jump, Trials, Road Racing and of course Gravity Bikes! The Gravity Bike component of the event has been run and won and while GBHQ doesn't have a reporter on the ground this is what we know...
Over a thousand people lined the road in Las Palmas to watch competitors duel down the 9 mile stretch of public road at 8.30pm local time. That's right people, under lights!! The race was broken into four different classes of weight. The official results posted on the El Clásico website confirm that there were around 83 riders granted places with Daniel Alberto Restrepo the fastest down the hill with a time of 5.08 minutes in the category A - up to 90kg class. For complete race results please click here.
Now if you have watched video of this road you will know that it is super fast, technical and has a combination of tight and free flowing bends, long straights and plenty of action for the riders that frequently bomb down it with traffic. We would like to congratulate Daniel on the win and look forward to bringing you more footage and images as they come to hand.
